Gastronomy and the Andorran typical kitchen

Andorra’s gastronomical traditions tend to hearty mountain fare, but nowadays we have imported many ideas and taste sensations from around the world.

Holiday  apartment visitors can enjoy traditional Andorran dishes such as river trout, local boar and venison, meat cooked on slates or a wood fire, quince ailioli, and the whole range of local sausages and cold cuts like donja, bringuera, bull, llonganissa and botifarres, both black and white.

There are also many different types of edible mushroom to be found in Andorra and it is rare to see a menu in a traditional borda restaurant that does not feature some tasty and sophisticated dishes with bolets, ceps or large, yellow-brown rovellons or wood mushrooms.

Apart from the traditional stone-built borda restaurants to be found all over the country, there are today literally hundreds of other restaurants, ranging from the most sophisticated designer food and modern international to those offering Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese, Indian, Italian and South American cuisine and, of course, many places where you can enjoy traditional Spanish tapas and a huge range of wines from all over the world.

Holiday apartment visitors will also enjoy our regular gastronomic festivals and shows. The free Escudelles on Sant Anthony’s day in January are just one of many. Amongst these are the Food and Gastronomy Exhibition, the Dia del Bacallà (salt cod) and the Mostra Gastronomica d’Andorra weeks where many local restaurants pride themselves on their special Andorran menus.
